The older houses in Wednesbury were mostly built around a water tank in the loft and a cylinder upstairs, so a new boiler here is usually a conversion rather than a swap. Many have been extended or knocked through since, so the boiler is sized for the house as it is now, not the house it was first fitted in.

On the older, taller Wednesbury houses the flue position needs particular care. A new flue has to sit clear of windows, doors and boundaries, and on a house close to its neighbours that can mean moving the boiler to where the flue can run safely, which is decided at the survey rather than on the day.

What's involved

New Boiler Installation in Wednesbury: the process

Sized for the house, not the brochure

An oversized boiler cycles and wears out early. We size on the radiators and the hot water demand, which in the larger Wednesbury houses is not always a combi.

System and conventional where it fits

Two bathrooms or a big family and a combi is the wrong answer. We will say so and quote the system that actually works rather than the cheapest box.

Pipework and controls brought up to date

Magnetic filter, thermostatic valves and proper controls fitted as standard. It is what makes a new boiler cheaper to run rather than just newer.

Fixed price, cleared away

Written quote, old boiler removed, registration done. No day-rate creep and no skip charge appearing at the end.

Flue position planned

The flue is placed clear of windows, doors and boundaries as the regulations require, and that decides where the boiler can go.

Sized after the extension

Heat loss is worked out for the house as it is now, extension included, so the boiler is neither too small nor oversized.

Good to know

What to know about New Boiler Installation

Is a combi right for our house?

If you have one bathroom, almost certainly. With two bathrooms or a household that all showers at once, a system boiler and a cylinder gives better performance. We size it on your actual demand rather than defaulting to a combi.

Why does boiler size matter so much?

An oversized boiler fires up, satisfies the demand quickly and shuts down again, over and over. That cycling wears out the components and costs you money. Sizing it properly is the single most useful thing an installer does.

Do you fit the controls as well?

Yes, and it is included. Thermostatic radiator valves and a proper programmable thermostat make far more difference to a Wednesbury heating bill than the badge on the boiler.

Why can my new boiler not go where the old one was?

Usually the flue. The rules on how close a flue can be to windows, doors and boundaries are stricter now, so a position that was fine decades ago may not be allowed for a new boiler.

Is a bigger boiler better for a large old house?

Not always. An oversized boiler switches on and off more often and wastes gas. It should match the heat the house actually needs, which in an extended Wednesbury house is worked out room by room.
